The Adventure Begins

We left Seattle Tuesday morning and we had our first layover in Los Angeles. We spent the day there with our friends Brett and Morgan who we haven't seen since last May. They now have a new addition to their family a beautiful, little baby boy! It was great to spend the day with friends and catch up before our departure. Not to mention having blue skies and no rain.
We spent the day at the Getty Art Museum which is where the pictures where taken at. It's an absolutely incredible museum. From the art, the architecture, the gardens, the view, the tram that takes you from the parking to the top, and the fact that it's free certainly made our day! After our day at the Getty, shopping, and dinner with our friends it was off to LAX to fly out to Costa Rica.

The flight was interesting to say the least. A five and a half hour flight that leaves at 2:00am sounds like a perfect time to sleep right? Oh NO, not quite. We had the most interesting of characters sitting next to us. As soon as she sat sat down next me I knew it was bad news by her sickly look & smell of smoke. The flight started off with her mildly coughing and sniffling and then it got worse and worse within minutes. She started hacking and hacking and hacking some more. It was such a deep-chested gauging hack/cough I thought she was going to throw up on me several times. After about 2 hours of this and of me trying to not touch her, in case she happened to have some terrible virus & she wasn't suffering from withdrawals, she went into deep comatose sleep. You would think this would make things better, oh no she was still hacking but at this point it got out of control. She starting falling on me and flailing her arms in my lap, people around us got out of their seats and were trying to steer clear of any germs she may have been hacking into the air. I tried to wake her by poking her and patting her, with no response. That was the final straw for me my germ-a-phobe/OCD was kicking in, the only way out was to literally climb over her and ask to be moved to another seat. Whew. Derek stayed with our belongings in the same aisle but a seat away from her. What a trooper! Finally a little shut eye, but not much. On a higher note though we are here, we arrived in Costa Rica! We are beat and have spent most of the day in our hotel sleeping. Tomorrow we take a 5 hour bus ride to Samara with Derek's parents, his brother & his wife. That is where we will be for the next 10 days. We miss you all!
More to come...

That's gross!! Glad you made it safely though. If the rest of the family gets sick we will assume D is the carrier monkey.
