Aconcagua Peak (the pic doesn't do it justice)
It has already been three months since we arrived in Chile and time for us to renew our visas. So last weekend we went to Mendoza, Argentina for a couple days. To get there you can either fly, bus, or bike (which we saw) across the Andes mountains. So we chose to bus! We got seats on a double-decker bus, we sat on the top floor in the front two seats. So we got the first view of the daunting peaks and drop offs. To say the least it was incredible, hard to describe and better than I imagined. Traveling alongside the Aconcagua Peak, which according to the Encyclopedia is the highest point above sea level on the Western Hemisphere soaring 22,840 feet, we marveled in awe at Jehovah's power. It also made us think about all the untouched places throughout the world that we will have an eternity to explore and discover! Unfortunately I had the sun and the windows up against me for pictures but we managed a few decent ones. We had a great couple of quick days in Mendoza biking through some vineyards and eating inexpensive, juicy steaks.
Remember my study I inherited? Well her name is Ms. Josephine and she moved to Chile from Maryland almost 60 years ago! She is in her 80's and has always been a Christian. She knows her bible extremely well. Before every study she looks up all the scriptures within the paragraphs and puts tabs in each scripture so she can find them more quickly for our study. It makes me appreciate how important it is for me as the teacher to prepare. Every week she is fascinated at the new things she is learning from the Bible and even though they are new thoughts to her she has been very accepting. It is so astounding how Jehovah's spirit can work on a person's heart no matter their age or circumstance. Finding ones like Ms. Josephine makes us so happy to be here helping because we find more and more people that speak English and have never been contacted by Jehovah's Witnesses.

What an awesome blessing to have a study like that! Sounds like Jehovah planted you two in a perfect spot.

The mountains are spectacular! How long was that bus ride? Ahhhh... and you made us miss those wonderful steaks in Argentina with a great Mendoza vino-such happy flashbacks for us. Thanks for the update!
john and hallie: the bus ride was 8 hours including customs. But with all the amazing scenery the time flew. I will admit though at times my eyes were closed and my heart was racing from all the crazy switchbacks!
Breathtaking!! Biking across the Andes sounds amazing. The reality of it I'm sure would be a little different :-) Loved hearing about Ms. Josephine too.. keep the updates coming!
